金属加工に用いられる主な素材は鉄、アルミニウム、ステンレス、銅などが挙げられます。。
鉄
代表的なものはやはり鉄です。価格も手頃で強度、加工のしやすさなど様々な
特徴があることから最も普及している素材と言えます。
また、炭素を含ませたり、焼き入れをする事でさらに強度を高めることもできます。
鉄と言えば「錆びやすい」というイメージがある方もいらっしゃるかもしれませんが、
表面塗装やメッキなどを施す事で錆の防止もすることができます。
アルミニウム
アルミニウムは、軽量、錆びにくい、熱伝導率が高い、磁気を帯びないなどの特徴があります。
その上、加工がしやすいため、精密加工をはじめ広い範囲で用いられています。
ステンレス
ステンレスの主成分は鉄です。クロムを加える事で錆びにくくなります。
ステンレスの一番の特徴は鉄や鋼より強度が高いという事です。
そのため、耐久性が求められる場合に用いられる事が多くあります。
銅
電気伝導性が高い金属は銀ですが、高価なためあまり多くは使われていません。
その代りとして、銀より安価で、銀の次に電気伝導性が高い銅が多用されています。
錆びやすい素材ではありますが、金メッキをする事で錆を防止することができます。
